From Sunflowers to Sparkles: A Week in the Studio

Another week at Kiln & Kettle, and once again our little studio was brimming with laughter, creativity, and heart-warming moments. Even on quieter days, the space felt alive — full of connection, inspiration, and the occasional paint splatter on our aprons (always a good sign).

When Artists Visit Artists

This week we welcomed a talented artist from Heemstede. Normally she paints on canvas in her own studio, but this time she joined us to create something truly special — a large platter with a stunning sunflower, finished with a bubble-art effect on the back.

Ze was warm, vriendelijk en vol verhalen. Samen genoten we van een kip-mayo broodje en heel veel thee, pratend over kunst, het leven, en alles daartussenin. Wat een feest om haar creativiteit op keramiek te zien bloeien in plaats van op doek. “Wat een fijne ochtend — rustig, creatief en vol gezelligheid.”

From Hillegom to Qatar (and to Us)

We also had the joy of hosting two girlfriends with a beautiful story. They first met years ago in Qatar, and while one now lives in Hillegom, the other still calls Doha home. Before flying back, they wanted to share a special morning together.

Ze schilderden een schaal en een bord, elk stuk een tastbare herinnering aan hun vriendschap. Hun verhaal raakte ons diep — opnieuw een bewijs dat ons atelier niet alleen om keramiek draait, maar vooral om verbinding.

A Birthday to Remember

This week also brought the most unforgettable 10th birthday party into the studio. The girls brought so much joy, laughter, and energy with them — balloons, a banner, and of course, cake!

Jarig zijn bij Kiln & Kettle is altijd magisch. Dit feestje herinnerde ons eraan hoeveel plezier en creativiteit kinderen inbrengen wanneer ze schilderen.

A Little Backstory

Some of you may not know the heart behind Kiln & Kettle. I opened this studio after the beautiful experiences Ava and I had at The Fired Frog in the UK. We painted, laughed, and collected memories with every bowl, plate, and funny froggy dish we made.

Diezelfde rust, verbinding en creatieve ontsnapping wilde ik naar Heemstede brengen. Wat ik niet had verwacht, is hoeveel heling het anderen zou geven. Mensen komen om te ontspannen, stress los te laten, en even te ontsnappen aan de drukte. Kunst is therapie — en we zijn dankbaar dat we deel mogen zijn van jullie verhalen.

Something Sparkly on the Horizon

Christmas is coming early at the studio! Our handmade baubles are nearly ready — so you can paint your own at an affordable price. They’ll soon be available in sets of 2, 4, or 6. Perfect for your own tree or as thoughtful gifts.

Behind the Scenes & What’s Next

Here’s a little peek at what’s been happening behind the curtain:

• Google 360 is visiting on Tuesday to make a full studio walkthrough and promo video!

• We’ve received only five-star reviews (thank you) — proof of the homely, welcoming vibe we’ve built together.

• Our kiln “Charlotte the Oven” fired three times last week — creativity is flowing, and business is growing.

• Corporate events are opening from October: team buildings, baby showers, vrijgezellenfeesten, and birthdays are already booked.

• Collaborations are growing too: 

Unsaid, the artist behind our big black wall sign, is now designing bespoke engraved ceramics with us. Perfect for geboortecadeaus, bruiloften, or corporate treasures.

En ja, zelfs een vrijdagavond verjaardagsfeest met eten, keramiek én misschien een waarzegster met kristallen bol staat op de planning. Bij Kiln & Kettle is alles mogelijk.
