A Season of Slowing Down
There’s something about this time of year in our beautiful town of Heemstede. The light hangs around a little longer. The days feel softer somehow. And without really noticing, you start craving something different. Not more noise. No more rushing around.
Just… connection.
With yourself. With the people you love. With moments that actually feel real. At Kiln & Kettle, our cosy pottery painting studio in Heemstede, we see it all the time.
People walk in carrying busy days and full minds…And then, slowly, something shifts. They sit down. Pick up a brush. And give themselves permission to pause, even if it’s just for a couple of hours.
What Does “Mother” Really Mean?
With Mothers day around the corner, I’ve been thinking about this. A mother isn’t always who you expect her to be.
She’s not just the one who gave you life. She’s the one who held you together. The one who showed up. The one who stayed.
Sometimes she’s soft. Sometimes she’s strong. Most of the time, she’s both. She could be a grandmother. A sister. A friend who quietly became family.
And sometimes… she’s you. Learning how to be kinder to yourself.
More patient. More gentle than the world tends to be.
In so many ways, motherhood is about creating. Which might be why sitting together at a table, painting pottery, feels so natural. Choosing colours that mean something. Saying things without having to say them at all. Because it’s never just a creative workshop. It's memory. It’s a connection. It’s something you get to keep.

From Inside the Studio
The kiln has been busy lately. We’ve seen deep blues turn richer after firing. Soft pastels come out almost glowing. Pieces that feel like little stories once they’re finished. There are always quiet moments too.
Someone making a thoughtful gift. Friends laughing when colours don’t go quite to plan. And that small, beautiful pause when someone leans back and realises: I made this.

Thursday Evenings (Our Favourite Kind of Escape)
There’s something special about a Thursday evening. Not quite the weekend…but far enough from Monday to finally breathe. From 18:30, everything in the studio softens. It’s warmer. Calmer. A little golden.
Perfect for a girls’ night out in Heemstede, a relaxed date night, or even a team outing that actually feels like a break. No pressure. No rushing.
Just a creative workshop experience, good company, and time to unwind.
Delft Blue, Reimagined
This month, we’re slowing things down even more with something timeless—a modern take on Delfts Blauw pottery, guided by Mariëlle Castelein.
Two moments to join us:
Thursday 30 April
19:00 – 21:30
Sunday 3 May
11:00 – 14:00
A chance to explore detail, colour, and creativity in your own way.

Moments Worth Gathering For
Some occasions deserve more than just dinner. At Kiln & Kettle here in Heemstede, we create space for meaningful moments:
✨ Birthday celebrations
✨ Bachelorette parties
✨ Baby showers
✨ Team building workshops
✨ Or simply a creative day out with friends
Whether it’s intimate or full of laughter, it always comes back to the same thing…a table, time together, and something personal to take home.

What Happens Behind the Scenes
It looks simple—but there’s a little magic involved. You paint your piece, taking your time, choosing colours that feel right. We glaze it carefully, giving it that smooth, glossy finish. Then it goes into the kiln, fired at over 1000°C. And that’s where the transformation happens.
Colours deepen.
Blues become richer.
Soft tones brighten and settle.
What comes out is stronger, food-safe, and made to last. It’s no longer just something you painted. It’s something you keep.
A Quiet Moment I Noticed
Two women sat next to each other this week. At first, they didn’t speak.
Just painted. One reached for a bold blue, hesitated… then went for it.
The other smiled, just slightly. By the end, they were laughing. Not loudly. Just enough to fill the space between them.
An Invitation
If you’ve been thinking about coming…
This is your sign. Come with your mum. Or someone who feels like one. Come with friends. Or come on your own. Book a pottery painting workshop here in beautiful Heemstede. Take a seat. Pick up a brush.
And stay a little longer than you planned. We’ll be here.

An Easter Wish
Soft light on quiet mornings,
Spring resting in the air,
A gentle kind of hopeful
That meets you where you are.
Not loud or brightly hurried,
But steady, warm, and true—
In small and simple moments,
That somehow stays with you.
Like paint upon a blank space,
Or hands around a cup,
A reminder, slow and certain,
That we are still becoming…
and it is enough.
From our table here in Heemstede,
To wherever you may be—
We wish you time, and softness,
And moments made gently.
Happy Easter,
With love from all at Kiln & Kettle.
